Iserrkelly Castle, this
fortress is an archetypal 16th century tower house nestled
majestically at Kilchreest, Loughrea.
Isserkelly was originally a 14th century O'Kelly stronghold,
which later became the main residence of the McHubert Burke
family from the 16th century.
One focal point of
interest here is the fireplace on the second floor bearing
an inscription that the builder be preserved from all evil -
this is the English translation since the original is in
Latin. |
